Review: How Magicians & Entertainers Can Make Over $1,400.00 Per Show Performing Stage Hypnotism
Hypnosis is an amazing art. As an entertainment vehicle, hypnotism can be one of the most powerful and lucrative was to make a living.
There is a lot of information about hypnosis in print, on CD and even on the Net. Most of it is very bad, or too technical or just plain confusing. Much of the information contradicts itself.
When I was still trying to learn hypnotism, I even approached working Mentalists and Hypnotists who said "Just go out there and do it." Basically, their advice was to fake it 'till you make it. One hypnotist even tried to discourage me from even trying; this is typical of most hypnotists, as they want to keep this field to themselves.
So, here comes a new course in hypnosis, How Magicians & Entertainers Can Make Over $1,400.00 Per Show Performing Stage Hypnotism. It's a big title, but it's a big course.
That said, the production quality of the tapes (yes, tapes, not CD’s!) are poor. Poor is about as good a word as you can give them. However, give me poor quality/good content than great quality/poor content anytime!
What you get:
You get four video tapes, approx. 2 hours in length, for a total of eight hours of material.
Vol. 1, The Art of Performing Stage Hypnosis — Show Breakdown, is a show in a church for a young group. Interspersed in the show is picture-in-a-picture narration and comments from Mark Lewis and another person. They give a blow-by-blow account of what's happening onstage and why. Many times, the echo of the two sound systems is annoying and hard to listen to. Basically, it's a show with comments, and this is, in my opinion, the hardest tape to watch.
Vol. 2 of the video tapes, Summary of Trance Induction Techniques, Along with the Art of Performing Stage Hypnosis — An Example of Working a Small or Difficult Show is, well... the title says it all. It's not a bad tape, except for the atrocious production quality. You are now seeing Mark Lewis in different entertainment areas.
Audio Tape 1: Techniques for Inducing Trance for Stage Hypnosis is just that — the basic foundation of hypnosis. It's hard to follow, but if you listen to it first and then watch the tapes, it starts to make sense.
Audio Tape 2: Advanced Techniques for Inducing Trance for Stage Hypnosis is just more of the same.
Now for the Bonus Tapes:
Bonus Audio Tapes 1 & 2 are "trance induction" tapes. Basically useless.
Video #3: Mark Lewis: A Tea-Side Chat; Techniques for a Medium-Sized Show; Working in a Bar — Some worthwhile information here. But, Geez Louise, Mark... why an interview in a noisy restaurant? Also, Mark does a show here in a bar — this guy has guts. These people looked like they wanted to be anywhere else, separated by a huge dance floor!
Video #4: The Art of Performing Stage Hypnosis on Large Stages and Arenas — He performs his show outside!
*sigh*
Induction Scripts: You get a 106-page manuscript of induction scripts. Realize, you only need TWO.
Can you learn hypnosis without the course? Yes, indeed. I have a friend who learned it from a $5 booklet from the back of a comic book! And, he's a terrific entertainer. But, if you need the "hand-holding", go somewhere else. Get trained really well, in stage hypnotism. You won’t get it here.
There are some additional bonus items. These items
should be taken out of the box and put on the shelf initially as they
are basically reference items. They are five books that you may never
use, but they are included.
There are also two additional audio tapes. Secrets of Wealth and Publicity
Power. And, you know what? They are not bad. You may like these two items,
but when you get the box, put them away.
You also get a certificate for a one-year listing in the International Stage Hypnotist Internet Directory (whatever that is).
Now, to answer your question, "Can I really make $1,400 a show doing hypnotism shows?"
Yes.
Why? Easy: supply and demand. $1,000 is not an unreasonable price. Most good hypnotists can get over $2,000 a show easily.
Now, there are a few other things that bothered me about this course. First, Mark Lewis is telling us we can make $1,400 a show, but he doesn't tell you how, that is, there are no marketing techniques here. He just alludes to the fact that hypnotists make more money than magicians.
Second, Mark Lewis, on many occasions refers to his helpers as "idiots". He does this in the explanation part and during the lectures, not during his shows. I found it very unprofessional and demeaning. And I couldn't help but wince every time he did it.
Third, I really wish this course "fit
together" more as a set.
It's hard to explain without you having it, but it seems like a lot of
pieces that we have to assemble. The videos, the manual, the 4 audio
tapes, the books, the bonuses... it's really too much.
